India Post GDS Application: Formatting the 400x500 Photo and Signature

1. The 400x500 Pixel Photograph Rule

Unlike standard exams that use small 200x230 pixel thumbnails, the India Post GDS portal demands a much larger image canvas: exactly 400 pixels wide by 500 pixels high.

• Strict File Size Windows: The required file size must sit strictly between 30 KB and 100 KB. Note the minimum limit of 30 KB. If you over-compress your image down to 20 KB, the portal will throw an error and refuse the file. India Post requires sufficient file weight to prevent pixelation during departmental records printing.
• Visual Balance: Ensure your head and neck occupy roughly 70% to 80% of the vertical canvas. Look straight into the camera lens with your eyes level. Avoid front-camera selfies, as optical distortion can alter facial structure and lead to disqualification during physical document verification.
• Clean Background: The backdrop must be pure white or a light solid color. Photographs captured against domestic interiors or outdoors will fail automated background segmentation checks.

2. The 300x120 Signature Requirement

The signature upload also requires a wider dimension than standard competitive exams. The file must measure 300 pixels wide by 120 pixels high, with an allowed file weight bounded between 20 KB and 100 KB.

1. Never submit a typed name or digitally drawn stylus signature; it must be a physical ink signature scanned into a JPEG file.
2. Sign on a clean sheet of unruled white paper using a dark black or deep blue pen.
3. Crop out excess paper boundaries so your handwriting spans smoothly across the 300x120 canvas.
4. Sign in continuous script. Submitting a signature written in capital block letters will invalidate your registration.
