NTA NEET Guidelines: Navigating Passport and Postcard Photo Requirements
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the single gateway for undergraduate medical admissions in India. Administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam's security protocols are incredibly strict. One unique aspect of the NEET application is the requirement to upload two distinct sizes of your photograph: a standard Passport photo and a larger Postcard photo.
1. The 80% Face Coverage Mandate
For both the passport and postcard photos, the NTA explicitly demands 80% face coverage. This means the candidate's face must dominate the image frame. Your shoulders should barely be visible at the bottom of the photo. Furthermore, both ears must be clearly visible for biometric verification. Masks, caps, and tinted glasses are universally banned.
2. Passport vs. Postcard Photo Specifications
You must upload the exact same photograph formatted into two different sizes:
- Passport Photo: The standard upload must be 275 pixels wide by 354 pixels high, with a file size between 10 KB and 200 KB.
- Postcard Photo (4x6 inches): The larger postcard photo must be exactly 400 pixels wide by 600 pixels high. The file size must also remain between 10 KB and 200 KB. This image is heavily scrutinized on exam day to prevent impersonation.
The background for both photos must be plain white. The NTA recommends wearing light-colored clothes to create proper contrast.
3. Signature Rules (10-100 KB)
The signature file must be sized to 140x60 pixels and kept between 10 KB and 100 KB. You must sign with a black ink pen on white paper in a running handwriting style. Capital letters are not permitted. Because the maximum size is 100 KB, you have ample room to ensure the signature remains crisp and unpixelated.
