The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) handles the most prestigious examinations in the country, including the Civil Services (IAS/IPS), NDA, and CAPF. Reflecting the gravity of these exams, the UPSC One Time Registration (OTR) system possesses the most rigidly defined and technically complex document upload protocols of any Indian recruitment board.

1. The Mandatory Name and DOP Stamp

- File Weight: The image must be kept between 20 KB and 300 KB. This generous upper limit means you should prioritize keeping the image sharp and clear.
- Background and Framing: The background must be plain white or off-white. Ensure you achieve 75% facial coverage within the 315x394 bounding box, looking straight into the camera without glasses or caps.
3. Unconventional Signature Proportions
Most competitive exams ask for a small, rectangular signature box (e.g., 140x60). The UPSC completely diverges from this standard, requiring a much wider aspect ratio. Your signature must be exactly 400 pixels wide by 100 pixels high. It must also fall within the 20 KB to 300 KB range.
Because the required box is so wide, you must sign your name horizontally across the paper. If you sign your name compactly and then try to stretch it to 400 pixels wide, the ink will look distorted and unnaturally thick. Sign broadly on unruled white paper with a black pen, crop it tightly to a wide rectangle, and then resize it to the exact 400x100 specification to guarantee a smooth upload process.
